Common Core -- also known in Connecticut as Connecticut State Standards, or CSS -- are a set of research-based, globally competitive K-12 expectations for English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.
Adopted by almost every state across the country, including Connecticut, Common Core State Standards are designed to make sure that all students are college and career ready when they leave high school. Norwalk Public Schools have been transitioning to these standards over the past two years.
Instead of focusing on knowledge and skills, Common Core standards are designed for deeper learning, and to make sure that all students can think critically and solve problems. The standards are fewer, higher, clearer, and comparable across states.
We designed this site for Norwalk Parents & Community Members, Teachers and Administrators. Strong partnerships foster student success!
