On Saturday, June 27th, the Kevin M. Eidt Memorial Scholarship Fund, (Kevin’s Fund), announced Elizabeth (Libby) Christinat the 24th recipient of Kevin’s Norwalk High School Scholarship.

The $100,000 scholarship was awarded to Libby, being judged the most outstanding senior in the Norwalk High School Class of 2020, in recognition of her outstanding depth of commitment and breadth of interests, involvements and accomplishments across the spectrum of academics, athletics, arts, and community and religious service, all areas in which Kevin participated and excelled.

Gregory Calnon, chair of the Fund’s Scholarship Selection Committee, and first recipient of this scholarship in 1997, presented Libby with the scholarship at her home with members of the Scholarship Selection Committee, Norwalk High School representatives and past scholarship recipients present. The Fund’s annual Scholarship Presentation and Benefit Dinner Dance, scheduled for April 4th, and rescheduled to June 26th, had to be cancelled due to state and city health restrictions.

Libby was selected from a pool of applicants meeting the following criteria for the scholarship:

  • Resident of Norwalk, CT.
  • U.S. citizen, or by time of submission of the final application will be a U.S. citizen.
  • In continued good standing in both Norwalk High School and their community.
  • A member of the Kevin M. Eidt Chapter of the Norwalk High School Honor Society.
  • Academically ranked in the top 10% of their class at the end of junior year.
  • Able to complete a minimum of six full semesters at Norwalk High School by the time of graduation in June 2020.
  • Planning to enroll in a four-year accredited U.S. college or university in the fall of 2020. The college or university must be a public or private, not for profit institution from which one can receive a bachelor’s degree.

Applicants submitted a preliminary application in October. In November, seven applicants from the application pool were invited to submit a final application in February, requiring letters of recommendation in support of their academic, athletic, arts, and community and religious service involvements and accomplishments. From this pool, four finalists were invited to an interview with the Scholarship Selection Committee. The recipient was selected based on how their application, recommendations, and interview most reminded the Selection Committee of Kevin.

Libby was ranked third in her class at the end of junior year with a 4.5 GPA, prior to the health disruption she had a senior year GPA of 4.6 while taking advanced placement courses in Psychology, Environmental Science, Literature and Composition, and Calculus.

Libby is President of the Kevin M. Eidt Chapter of the National Honor Society and Treasurer of her class. Libby was a four-year member of the swimming team and captain in her senior year. She is a four-year member of the school’s Choir, selected for the Connecticut Western Regional Choir, and takes private dance classes. Libby volunteers at the Hope Church Bible School and Kids Club Ministry and is a student worship leader. During the summer of 2019 Libby participated in a mission trip to Costa Rica to run day camps at local schools and orphanages and help build a new community church.

Libby is also a swim instructor for the City of Norwalk and lifeguard at Calf Pasture Beach.

Libby will be attending the College of William and Mary.
