The lottery application for the McMahon Healthcare Academy is now live through March 15. The program offers students the ability to earn health certifications through a partnership with Norwalk Community College (NCC).

Rising grade 9 students can apply via lottery system, including 10 who will be chosen from across the district. Those selected will be enrolled as full time Brien McMahon students and will graduate with a Brien McMahon diploma as long as they remain in the program.

Students who participate in the McMahon Healthcare Academy can earn certification, which will enable them to secure jobs after graduation such as an Emergency Medical Technicians, Phlebotomy Assistants and Patient Care Technicians.

The Academy is an approved school for the Biomedical Science pathway for which all students will take the three-course sequence as part of their experience in the program with the opportunity to earn college credit in these areas. They will also gain membership in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), a national organization of future healthcare professionals.

Students enrolled in the Academy will engage in a rich integrated curriculum, and will have access to authentic experiences including fieldwork across a number of healthcare disciplines. Students in grade 9 and 10 will participate in field experiences at NCC. Juniors and seniors will take classes in the evening for certifications. Concurrently with required science classes, students will be following the 3-course Biomedical Science sequence of Project Lead The Way.

Entrance into the McMahon Healthcare Academy is by lottery application only. The deadline to apply is March 15.
