Summer Music

The Norwalk Public Schools Music Department is again offering a Summer Music Instrumental Program. Instruction will be given on all orchestral and band instruments. (Piano and guitar lessons are not offered.)

The summer program is designed to start new students, as well as continue the musical growth of those who are already in the school program. It provides dedicated instrumental study in a relaxed atmosphere without the pressure of a typical school setting. Often, students find these lessons to be highly motivating. And, typically, a greater amount of progress is made than during the school year. This program also provides an excellent opportunity for beginning students to discover if they have an interest in a particular instrument.

Lessons will be offered at Norwalk High School, West Rocks Middle School, Ponus Ridge Middle School, and Roton Middle School, (subject to teacher availability) between the hours of 8:00am and 1:00pm, Monday through Friday, from June 25th through July 27th. You will be contacted to schedule a specific time by the teacher directly. Students must provide their own transportation. Missed lessons will not be re-scheduled unless the teacher is notified at least one day in advance.

NOTE: Some teachers offer beginner group lessons for string students entering 3rd grade and band students entering 6th grade. These classes meet three times a week, are not available at all locations, and require a minimum of four students. For more information, contact the Program Coordinator, Mr. John Skelton, at skeltonj@norwalkps.org.

Payment must accompany the registration form for each instrument taken. Make your check payable to Summer Music School. Mail this form and your check to: Roton MS, 201 Highland Ave., (Attn.: John Skelton). Please note that you have the possibility of paying less if you register by May 1st! Registration between May 1st and June 11th is at the regular price. After June 11th, a late fee will be applied. All fees include a $20 non-refundable processing fee.

No refunds will be given for missed lessons or to families withdrawing their child from the summer program after June 25th. No exceptions will be made.

If you have further questions about the Summer Music Instrumental Program, please contact either your school’s band or orchestra teacher, or Mr. Skelton at skeltonj@norwalkps.org.
