Portrait of a Graduate Learner Profiles

At Norwalk Public Schools, we believe success is reflected not only in achievement but also in how students understand themselves and tell their stories. 

Every student is developing a personal narrative. Through the Portrait of a Graduate, we support students in building strengths-based identities grounded in our five competencies: critical thinker, effective communicator, synergistic collaborator, self-directed learner, and global citizen.

In January 2026, select educators and coaches across the district piloted the Portrait of a Graduate Scholar Profile project in classrooms from elementary to high school. Students engaged with the competencies and developed digital profiles centered on the competency that resonated most with them, sharing meaningful moments from their lives when they embodied that skill.

The result from this pilot is a powerful collection of student stories that bring the Portrait of a Graduate to life. 

We are grateful to the educators and coaches who supported this pilot and laid the foundation for a practice that will continue to expand across our schools.
