Academics

At Norwalk Public Schools, we are proud of our students’ achievements, the high-quality instruction delivered every day in our classrooms, and our commitment to developing strong school leaders.
Under Academics, explore an overview of the district’s curriculum and the academic departments that guide teaching and learning across all grade levels. You will also find information on multilingual learner supports, specialized learning services, digital learning, testing and evaluation, summer learning opportunities, and more.
Our work is grounded in Connecticut State Department of Education standards and frameworks and reflects the richness of Norwalk’s diverse community through culturally responsive, inclusive instruction. High expectations for all learners are supported by meaningful assessments, data-informed decision-making, and equitable access to resources.
Our schools thrive because of the collaboration among students, families, educators, administrators, and community partners. We are dedicated to empowering every student with the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Portrait of a Graduate
Central to this work is our Portrait of a Graduate, the roadmap guiding our mission to provide an excellent and equitable education that prepares all students to be future ready as civically responsible, globally engaged, and positive contributors to society.
It is a shared vision for teaching and learning that empowers every student to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with purpose, and make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world.
Through the PoG, we are aligning instruction, programs, and partnerships across the district so that every student has the opportunity to develop these competencies from PreK through graduation.
NPS PK-12 Literacy Vision:
Developed in direct support of the Portrait of a Graduate, our Literacy Vision affirms that literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning and success. We believe all students should have meaningful opportunities to read, write, speak, and listen every day, and to strengthen those skills in every classroom they enter.
