Norwalk Public Schools is pleased to announce that Michael Clyne has been appointed as interim principal of Cranbury Elementary School effective July 1, 2020. Mr. Clyne brings with him a strong background in effective school organization, with the goal of maximizing learning practices and resources, and developing a positive and successful school experience for all students and staff.

Mr. Clyne joined Norwalk Public Schools at the start of the 2019-20 school year as curriculum and instruction site director at Cranbury. Over the course of the year, he worked closely with outgoing Principal Kristin Goldstein and a team from Mass Insight, a leading nonprofit focused on education system transformation, to complete a comprehensive assessment at Cranbury. In his new role, he will lead the 2020-21 implementation of priority focus areas from the report’s findings, including ensuring that systems and structures are in place to manage school improvement and cultivate collective responsibility, improve Tier 1 instruction and maximize core instructional time.

Prior to joining Norwalk Public Schools, Mr. Clyne was the instructional coach at New Milford Public Schools. In this role, he served as data coach for grades K-12, providing strategic job-embedded professional learning for all staff district-wide. He also promoted Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) to further develop a systematic approach for assessing and instructing students. Additionally, Mr. Clyne analyzed classroom data for all district and state assessments and developed digital tools for teachers and staff to help inform instructional decisions. He hosted workshops to help parents and community members build their understanding of the purpose of meeting these benchmark. An active member of the New Milford Public Schools community, he was a member of the Curriculum Council, Professional Development and Evaluation Committee, Co-Chair of Districtwide SRBI team, and Aspiring Leadership Cohort.

Mr. Clyne spent several years at Kanoheda Elementary School in Georgia teaching curriculum to engage students and enable the school to make yearly progress. During his time there, he facilitated and developed local and district professional learning opportunities related to elementary level Language Arts instruction. He also coordinated a health education grant through HealthMPowers, providing additional resources, materials and events in promoting student and staff wellness. Mr. Clyne also participated in the district’s Leadership Academy.

A leader in implementation of systems and analysis, he has presented at a variety of prestigious educational conferences including Gwinnett County Summer Leadership Conference, Georgia State Department of Education Summer Academy, Connecticut State Department of Education, and Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) Regional and National Conferences. Mr. Clyne was honored as a Jacket 2 Jacket Award Winner, RBC Tribute to Teacher Award Winner, and Symetra and Atlanta Falcons – Heroes in the Classroom Winner.

Mr. Clyne holds a Master of Education with a concentration in Technology from Sacred Heart University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Connecticut.
