Norwalk Public Schools is pleased to announce that Jacquelyn Aarons has been appointed as interim principal of Wolfpit Elementary School, effective July 1, 2020. An experienced educational leader, Ms. Aarons has a deep background in the arts that aligns with Wolfpit’s planned shift from a traditional program to one with an emphasis on visual and performing arts.

A Norwalk native and a graduate of Norwalk High School, her leadership strengths include the use of data to make informed decisions on curriculum, instructional practice and social-emotional learning. Ms. Aarons has proven expertise in educating the whole child and fostering a culture of progressive intervention.

In addition to holding a variety of leadership roles within the district, Ms. Aarons is also a graduate of the RELAY National Principals Academy Fellowship program. With candidates selected through a competitive process, the RELAY fellowship is a rigorous, year-long program focused on teaching and instructional leadership skills that have the greatest impact on student learning. NPS’s partnership with the RELAY Graduate School is part of the district’s commitment to developing high potential leaders and filling leadership positions from within.

Ms. Aaron’s experience includes supervising visual and performing arts programs at both Brien McMahon and Norwalk High. An enthusiast of all styles of dance, Ms. Aarons has served since 2015 as show designer and instructor for the Sacred Heart University Winterguard program. Recognized for her expertise in performance and the marching arts, she has trained with the New Jersey Network of Judges and has served as a general effect colorguard adjudicator at marching band shows throughout the region. She has served as colorguard and winterguard director at Norwalk High School, and also has been an instructor with the Trumbull High School Marching Band and Colorguard. She is an avid theatre goer with a passion that ranges from Broadway to community theatre.

Ms. Aarons joins the Wolfpit community from her role as assistant principal at Brien McMahon High School. While in this role, she worked collaboratively with school administration to identify educational and instructional needs, facilitated programming, and aligned all practices to BMHS core values and beliefs.

Prior to this position, she was assistant principal at Norwalk High School. There, Aarons facilitated professional learning experiences for faculty, and supervised Art, Music, English Learners, Special Education & World Languages. Ms. Aarons was previously the English Department Chair at Norwalk High School, providing leadership to a dynamic group of teachers through a variety of supervisory transitions and curriculum shifts. Her responsibilities included observing and coaching new and veteran teachers, and managing parent, teacher and student meetings on course content concerns. Ms. Aarons began her teaching career as an English teacher at Norwalk High School.

Ms. Aarons holds a Sixth Year Administrative Diploma from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master of Science in Education from the University of Bridgeport and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Connecticut.

In keeping with the Board of Education’s policy, the Wolfpit School Governance Council will select a permanent principal, with the support of the Norwalk Public Schools Talent Department, in the spring of 2021.
