A Message from Dr. Estrella & the Norwalk BOE to Support Immigrant Community

A Message from Dr. Estrella & the Norwalk BOE to Support Immigrant Community
NPS Communications

Dear NPS Community,

The Norwalk Board of Education and I want to address the offensive signage that has been spotted around Norwalk, intimidating our immigrant community.

Together, we stand in solidarity with the immigrants living in our community, and we welcome them as they strive to find peace and success in America.

We want to reassure you that no such signage has been discovered on school campuses or other Norwalk Public Schools properties. The Norwalk Police Department continues to investigate to identify the individuals responsible for these troubling messages. They encourage anyone with information to contact their tip line:

  • Text: Send an anonymous tip by texting the keyword NORWALKPD and your tip to 847411.
  • App: Download the free Norwalk Police Department app for iOS or Android to submit anonymous tips directly from your mobile device.
  • Online: Visit the department’s Anonymous Tip website to submit a tip securely. After submission, you will receive a six-digit anonymous ID to track your report.

At Norwalk Public Schools, we take immense pride in celebrating the rich diversity that defines both our district and our local community. Immigrant students and their families are integral to our shared identity, bringing valuable contributions to our schools and society. Their backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences enrich our classrooms and foster an environment of creativity, innovation, and mutual understanding.

We remain unwavering in our commitment to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for every student, regardless of their background. In our schools, our diversity is a profound strength.

I encourage everyone to attend the city’s "Know Your Rights" community meeting at City Hall this evening from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This important event, hosted in collaboration with Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and local immigration advocacy groups, aims to provide vital information and resources.

I look forward to joining Attorney General Tong, Mayor Harry Rilling, Police Chief James Walsh, and Lamond Daniels, Chief of Community Services, in this discussion.

As we enter this season of togetherness and reflection, let us reaffirm our commitment to unity and respect for one another. May peace and harmony guide us in all we do.

Yours in Partnership

Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella and the Norwalk Board of Education
