BMHS & NHS Host Freshman Transition Programs
Brien McMahon High School and Norwalk High School are helping their incoming freshmen transition into high school and prepare for a successful next four years. Learn more about this year's summer transition programs.
Brien McMahon High School - Summer Bridge Program
We’re so excited to be hosting about 100 of our incoming freshmen participating in the two-week Summer Bridge Program, in partnership with the Connecticut RISE Network.
These students are learning about our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, engaging in project-based learning experiences, learning about Youth Development skills, and conducting a Marine Biology experiment involving the Long Island Sound.
Through this program, students make connections with teachers and support staff, tour the building and develop bonds with other students. Participating in the Summer Bridge Program has shown that incoming freshmen start high school more prepared and outperform their peers in remaining On Track for graduation.
Norwalk High School - AP Ambassadors Program
We recently held our annual AP Ambassador Boot Camp, helping rising freshmen transition to high school. The students participating in the program came recommended by their previous middle schools.
On Day 2 of the four-day camp, NHS alumni who recently graduated from high school or college visited to share their high school experiences with the new students, a way of paying it forward to their fellow Bears. The alumni shared their high school journey along with tips on how to be successful in high school and beyond.
Thank you to our amazing NHS alumni for spending time with our incoming freshmen and helping the next class be successful in their future endeavors.
