Brien McMahon and Norwalk High Schools Host Cross-District Trades Fair
NPS Communications

On Dec. 10, Brien McMahon High School (BMHS) and Norwalk High School (NHS) partnered to host a cross-district Trades Fair designed for students interested in pursuing careers in the trades after graduation—an alternative to the traditional four-year college route. The event offered an exciting, hands-on look at a wide range of professional pathways and highlighted Norwalk Public Schools’ commitment to preparing students for success in whichever direction they choose.

More than 100 students from both high schools attended the fair, held at Norwalk High School. College & Career Specialists De-Andra Forbes (BMHS) and Ajsa Vega (NHS) personally invited students who had already expressed interest in trade professions, ensuring the fair reached those most eager to explore these opportunities.

The event kicked off with a brief welcome and a panel discussion featuring professionals from various trades. Following the panel, students participated in breakout sessions led by 22 presenters, allowing them to tailor the experience to their specific interests.

Students had the opportunity to meet and learn from:

  • Area trade and technical schools
  • Union representatives from the electrical, plumbing, and welding fields
  • Military branches including the Army and Marines
  • Professionals from technical and hands-on industries such as:
    • Construction
    • Electric
    • Tiling
    • Hospitality
    • Automotive technology
    • Cosmetology
    • HVAC
    • Culinary arts
    • And more

At Norwalk Public Schools, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to explore multiple post-secondary options. Events like the Trades Fair empower students to discover pathways that align with their passions, dreams, and aspirations, whether that leads them to a skilled trade, the military, a technical program, or college.

By expanding access to real-world career experiences, BMHS and NHS continue to ensure that students graduate with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their futures.
