December '24 Message from the Superintendent - Happy Holidays!
Dear NPS Community,
As we prepare for the Winter Break, I want to take a moment to wish all of you a relaxing and restful holiday season. I hope this time brings you the joy of gathering with family and friends, celebrating cherished traditions, and enjoying delicious meals.
This holiday season, I’m particularly excited to celebrate my grandson’s first Christmas. Hearing his giggles and seeing his bright smile as he experiences the spirit of the season has reminded me of the magic found in life’s simplest moments. I hope the new year brings each of you the same joy that I see in him every day.
It has also been heartwarming to witness the joy shared throughout our district this season. At the Family Center’s third annual Holiday Read Aloud event, we saw children’s faces light up with excitement as they received gifts and participated in fun activities. This event was made possible by the incredible efforts of the Family Center team and nearly 120 sponsors from across the district who generously supported our students. Thank you to everyone who helped make this night so special.
We also have reason to celebrate within our schools! Please join me in congratulating Assistant Principal Lashante James of Brien McMahon High School, who was named the 2025 High School Assistant Principal of the Year. This prestigious honor reflects her dedication, hard work, and the meaningful impact she has made on students, families, and our Norwalk community.
As we approach the new year, I want to take a moment to commend the tireless efforts of our district team in preparing the FY 2025-26 Operating and Capital Budgets. Their commitment to balancing fiscal responsibility with the needs of our schools is truly admirable. In the coming months, there will be opportunities to advocate for our budget at public meetings with the Board of Education and city government. I encourage everyone to make their voices heard to ensure that Norwalk Public Schools continue to provide the resources and support our scholars deserve.
Finally, I am proud of the strides we are making toward our shared mission of seeing all students graduate future ready. As presented at our recent Board of Education meeting, we are building strong momentum in accountability and student achievement. With your continued support, I am confident that 2024 will bring even greater accomplishments for our scholars and our schools.
I wish you a wonderful Winter Break filled with rest, joy, and celebration. Thank you for all that you do to support our students and community. I look forward to seeing you in the new year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Alexandra Estrella
