Happy First Day of School! A Message from Dr. Alexandra Estrella
Welcome back to the 2023-24 school year for Norwalk Public Schools! I’m so honored to be starting my fourth year as your superintendent, and I truly believe this school year will be our best yet.
The first day of school is always one of my favorite days of the year. Everyone has an extra pep in their step, excited to get back in the classroom, reconnect with old friends, and start the new year off right. I appreciate the opportunity to engage with our students and teachers, and celebrate the new year together.
While I’m excited to get this year underway, it’s also a bittersweet time for me as my boys will be graduating in June. To all the high school seniors in the district, enjoy every minute of what’s left of your time in Norwalk Public Schools. I hope you can look back on this time fondly, remembering the good times that you shared with your friends and the incredible moments that you got to experience together.
Once again, I started the first day of school at the bus depot, thanking our school bus drivers for their dedicated service before they hit the road to pick up our students. They play an important role in making sure our children make it to school each day to learn and grow.
I had the privilege to visit 10 schools on the first day, and I loved seeing so many smiling faces as everyone walked back into school. I hope each of you keeps that enthusiasm throughout the school year as you get the opportunity to learn new things, make new friends, and challenge yourself academically.
My tour across the district will continue throughout the week, and I can’t wait to celebrate these first few days of school with all of you. And if I don’t have the opportunity to see or speak with you this week, then I look forward to celebrating more district events and accomplishments together throughout the year. I hope you will join me.
Everyday, we will continue to strive for excellence and equity for each of our scholars, providing them with high-quality instruction that will prepare them to be future ready. We hope to engage with each of you – students, families, teachers and staff – to achieve these goals.
Have a great first week of school!
Yours in Partnership,
Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Superintendent of Schools
