Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School Educators Nominated for National LifeChanger of the Year Award

Jefferson Marine Science Magnet School principal Cesar Nina and fifth grade teacher/after school program leader Julie Signore have been nominated for National Life Group’s 2025-26 LifeChanger of the Year award.

National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year recognizes and rewards the very best K-12 educators and school district employees across the United States who are making a difference in the lives of students by exemplifying excellence, positive influence, and leadership.

Nina and Signore were both nominated by their colleague, Maria Paris.

Nina leads his school with heart, inclusion, and unwavering dedication to students, families, and staff. He ensures every school event includes free food so all families can participate without financial stress, creating a welcoming environment where everyone truly belongs.

As principal of a marine science school, Nina brings learning to life by arranging swimming lessons and partnering with the local aquarium so students can experience ocean science firsthand. He also played an active role in earning the school’s Ocean Guardian designation, helping to fundraise, write grants, and build a pathway garden alongside teachers, parents, and students.

When budget challenges arose, Nina chose to take on extra responsibilities rather than lose teachers and staff, demonstrating his deep commitment to putting people first.

Her impact goes far beyond academics. From providing coats, supplies, and holiday support to creating safe, enriching opportunities for students after school, Signore has never hesitated to step in when a child or family is in need.

Her classroom is a place of warmth, acceptance, and belief in every student’s potential. A trusted colleague and friend, she fosters a culture of compassion and support throughout the school.
