May '25 Message from the Superintendent

May '25 Message from the Superintendent
Dr. Alexandra Estrella

Dear NPS Community

I love this time of year—it’s when we begin to reflect on and celebrate all that we’ve accomplished together over the course of the school year. It’s also a season when our community comes together to recognize the incredible dedication of our students, teachers, and staff. These moments of celebration remind us how far we’ve come and what we can achieve when we work together.

Earlier this month, I had the privilege of traveling to the State Capitol in Hartford with 30 of our high school students to advocate for education funding. Watching our scholars confidently and passionately use their voices to fight for adequate resources—not just for themselves, but for future generations of students—was truly inspiring. Their professionalism and poise in conversations with state legislators were remarkable, and they represented Norwalk with pride. Our entire community should be proud.

Another group of talented students I’m excited to recognize are our young artists. The upcoming Citywide Art Festival on Wednesday, May 21 at The Norwalk Art Space is a wonderful opportunity for our students to showcase their incredible artwork. We have so many gifted artists across our schools, and their work deserves to be displayed in a beautiful gallery like The Art Space. I hope you’ll join us in celebrating their creativity and talent.

Of course, this time of year is not only about celebrating students. On May 8, I had the joy of presenting awards at our annual Excellence in Education ceremony. Thanks to the Norwalk Education Foundation and Executive Director Marge Costa, this special evening was once again a meaningful tribute to our exceptional educators and school support staff. It’s always an honor to celebrate the individuals who make such a lasting impact on our schools and students.

We also recognized Teacher Appreciation Week and School Nurse Day this month. While one week or one day is never enough, it’s a reminder of just how much our teachers and nurses contribute every single day. Their dedication, care, and resilience are essential to the success and well-being of our students, and I want to thank them sincerely for all they do.

As we look ahead, our juniors and seniors are preparing for prom—and thanks to the efforts of our Family Center and generous community donors, everyone has the chance to attend in style. Our Say Yes to the Dress and Suit event returned for a second year and now includes suits and tuxedos, ensuring that every student feels confident and included on their special night.

So many wonderful celebrations—and next month, we’ll mark some of the most meaningful of all: our graduation and promotion ceremonies. I can’t wait to honor our students as they take the next step in their journeys.

Let’s finish the school year strong!

Yours in Partnership,

Dr. Alexandra Estrella
