NPS and NCHC Celebrate New Family Health & Wellness Center

NPS and NCHC Celebrate New Family Health & Wellness Center
NPS Communications

On Monday, Jan. 27, Norwalk Public Schools celebrated the opening of its third student-based health and wellness center in partnership with the Norwalk Community Health Center (NCHC). The new Family Health & Wellness Center opened at the NPS Family Center.

Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Superintendent of Norwalk Public Schools, and Kenneth Waller, Chief Executive Officer/Chief Operations Officer, along with their teams and board members joined national, state and local leaders to cut the ribbon outside the entrance to the new clinic at 1 Park St. despite the chilly temperatures.

“When we opened the Family Center three years ago, our vision was to create a one-stop shop for family-facing school services—an easily accessible place where students and their families could find the support they need. Today, we are thrilled to add comprehensive healthcare services for the whole family to that list through this new clinic,” said Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Superintendent of Norwalk Public Schools.

Like the other NCHC school-based health centers in the district, the Family Health & Wellness Center will offer a multitude of services including physicals, health screenings, immunizations, counseling, crisis intervention and suicide prevention, nutrition/weight management, diagnoses and treatments of minor illnesses/injuries and much more.

NPS and NCHC are excited to expand services to not only students but their families as well at the new location. Once a patient establishes care at the Family Center location, they can access care at any of the other NCHC locations including 120 Connecticut Ave. and at the Smilow Life Center on Chestnut Street in Norwalk.

“We are truly fortunate to have partnerships like these in Norwalk, ensuring that vital healthcare services are accessible to our students. What’s most exciting about this new clinic is its expanded mission: providing not just a place for our students to seek necessary healthcare, but also a resource for their families,” Estrella said.

Students within the Norwalk Next Steps program, which is housed at the Family Center, will also have easy access to services at the Family Health & Wellness Center facilities.

In 2024, NPS opened two health and wellness centers on school campuses, one servicing students at Brien McMahon High School and Center for Global Studies, and the other one servicing students at Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy and Concord Magnet School.
