Norwalk Public Schools announced on Oct. 1 its selection as a 2026 EDSAFE AI Alliance District Policy Lab Selectee. This recognition positions Norwalk Public Schools as a leader in responsibly integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into education, providing a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI policy for schools nationwide.

The EDSAFE AI Alliance Policy Labs are a pioneering, voluntary community of practice dedicated to navigating the complex and rapidly evolving landscape of AI in education. The network brings together states and school districts to develop and implement clear, effective, and responsible AI policies and guidance aligned with the SAFE Framework.

"We are incredibly honored to be chosen for this collaborative," said Dr. Alexandra Estrella, Superintendent of Norwalk Public Schools. "Our participation in the EDSAFE AI Alliance Policy Lab will enable us to proactively create informed, ethical, and effective AI policies that enhance learning while ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and educators. This is a tremendous opportunity to not only benefit our own community but also contribute to a national dialogue on this critical topic."

As a Policy Lab selectee, Norwalk Public Schools will collaborate with a national network of peers to share insights, best practices, and challenges related to developing effective AI frameworks tailored to educational settings. The work of these labs will directly impact millions of students, thousands of educators, and leaders nationwide.

This initiative is part of the EDSAFE AI Alliance's broader effort, supported by Google.org, to expand its reach and triple its impact over the next three years. The funding will help the network grow to 44 school districts and 20 states.
