NPS Student Artists Brighten The SoNo Collection with Holiday Window Paintings
Norwalk Public Schools was delighted to return to The SoNo Collection for the third annual Holiday Window Painting event, giving our talented student artists a chance to showcase their creativity in a public space and celebrate the winter and holiday season.
This year marked a record number of participants, with 15 schools contributing festive masterpieces across the mall’s windows in The Magnificent Room:
- Brien McMahon High School
- Norwalk High School
- Roton Middle School
- West Rocks Middle School
- Brookside Elementary School
- Concord Magnet School
- Fox Run Elementary School
- Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School
- Kendall College & Career Academy
- Naramake Elementary School
- Rowayton Elementary School
- Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School
- South Norwalk School
- Tracey Magnet School
- Wolfpit Integrated Arts School
For many young artists, this was their first time painting on glass which presented a unique challenge since glass is a non-porous surface that doesn’t absorb paint like paper or fabric.
“It was a new experience, painting on a new texture,” said Stefanie Bronner, art teacher at Roton Middle School.
Her students designed a piece inspired by the Aurora Borealis, first sketching it with colored pencils on paper before transferring the design to the window. The process required patience, as each layer of paint needed time to dry before adding the next to create the swirling effect of the northern lights.
Students from Norwalk High School began their design by painting a snowy white background before adding the beloved Peanuts characters Snoopy and Woodstock perched atop Snoopy’s red doghouse.
“Snoopy just reminds us of wintertime,” said Karizma, a Norwalk High School senior. “Doing it year after year, we’ve learned how to make it look better. This is the best we’ve done.”
The colorful, creative windows will remain on display at The SoNo Collection throughout the holiday season, spreading cheer to shoppers and visitors alike.
Norwalk Public Schools extends sincere thanks to The SoNo Collection for its continued partnership and support of student art. Events like this highlight the creativity, collaboration, and community spirit of our students.
