NPS Summer Graduation Honors Over 80 Students
On July 29, Norwalk Public Schools celebrated a proud milestone for more than 80 students from Brien McMahon and Norwalk High Schools who earned their high school diplomas during the 2025 Summer Graduation ceremony. These determined students completed their final graduation requirements through Credit Recovery, Twilight Academy or the MLL Accelerated Summer program.
The ceremony was a moving tribute to the perseverance and determination of this inspiring group of graduates. Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella commended the students in a heartfelt address.
“Take pride in what you have accomplished,” Estrella said. “Earning your diploma is no small feat. The way you have done it is truly inspiring. Your perseverance, your dedication, and your belief in your future are powerful. And you inspire all of us.”
More than 500 attended the ceremony to cheer on the graduates including proud families and friends. Also celebrating the graduates inspiring achievement were a host of community and district leaders, including the Superintendent, Mayor Harry Rilling, Norwalk Board of Education Chair Diana Carpio, Director of Summer Programs A.J. Albano, and administrators from both high schools — BMHS Principal Barbara Wood and NHS Assistant Principal Dan Sullivan.
A special highlight of the evening was the graduate message delivered by Brien McMahon student Laura Rubio Velasquez, who spoke on behalf of the Class of 2025 summer graduates.
Of the 82 graduates, 43 were multilingual learner (MLL) students who took part in the MLL Accelerated Summer Program. This initiative supports over-age and under-credited students, helping them earn credits needed for graduation and in many cases, to do so ahead of schedule. Among these 43 graduates, 18 were members of the 2025 graduating cohort, one belonged to the 2024 cohort, and the rest celebrated their achievement as early graduates.
These summer graduates now join their fellow classmates from Brien McMahon, Norwalk High, the Center for Global Studies, and P-TECH Norwalk who graduated in June, further enriching the district’s proud Class of 2025.
We commend every one of our summer graduates for their commitment and courage. Your achievements speak volumes and your futures are full of promise. Congratulations!
