October '24 Message from the Superintendent

October '24 Message from the Superintendent
Dr. Alexandra Estrella

Dear NPS Community,

A little less than two months into the 2024-25 school year, and we’re already looking ahead to next year as we start developing the FY 2025-26 Operating and Capital Budgets.

On October 10, we had an excellent turnout for the Norwalk Board of Education’s Town Hall to discuss the upcoming budget cycle and gather feedback from our community. Many ideas were shared, but the one that stood out most was the importance of recruiting and retaining great teachers. This concept aligns perfectly with our strategic priority to provide high-quality instruction and support which will ensure that we are providing the best education possible for our scholars.

Your insights and ideas are invaluable, helping us shape a budget that reflects the values and priorities of our community. Your participation strengthens this development process, and we encourage you to stay involved.

We will offer more opportunities for families and community members to share their thoughts with us. Please join us for:

  • In-Person Town Hall: Thursday, November 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Jefferson Marine Science Elementary School.
  • Virtual Meeting: Wednesday, November 6 from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m.

I also invite you to celebrate with us at our third annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Thursday, October 24, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Brien McMahon High School. This year, we’re proud to celebrate the national theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” highlighting influential Hispanic figures whose contributions have shaped our world. Join us to enjoy incredible performances, delicious food, and lots of fun!

It’s been a pleasure to host these district wide events over the last few years. Each one gives us the opportunity to learn about and appreciate different cultures, enriching not only the educational experiences of our scholars, but giving all of us a deeper understanding of our neighbors and strengthening our community.

We’re looking forward to strengthening the South Norwalk community with its first neighborhood school in over 40 years. I had the privilege of joining Mayor Rilling, Sen. Bob Duff, and many other community leaders on October 10 to celebrate the Steel Topping-Off Ceremony at the new South Norwalk Elementary School.

It was truly inspiring to see the final beam set into place, bringing us one step closer to opening a school that will serve not only as a place of learning but also as a gathering space for the entire community. This school will provide South Norwalk students with the opportunity to learn and grow close to family and friends, building deep connections within their neighborhood.

I hope to see you all at the Hispanic Heritage Festival and encourage you to attend one of the upcoming budget meetings. Your feedback is essential as we work together to support our students and staff effectively.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and commitment to our shared mission of providing every student with the best possible education.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alexandra Estrella
