Words In Transit: NPS and Norwalk Transit Partner to Put Student Poetry on the Road
NPS Communications

Norwalk Public Schools and the Norwalk Transit District proudly launched the “Words In Transit” campaign, featuring original poems by middle school students under the theme “I Am Norwalk.” Five powerful pieces—each representing one of our middle school programs—are now on display on the backs of Norwalk Transit buses throughout the month.

In celebration of National Poetry Month this April, middle school students from across the district were invited to participate in a unique poetry contest that would showcase their writing across the city by having the winning poems featured on the back of Norwalk city buses. The contest theme was "I Am Norwalk" and encouraged students to reflect on their identify, community and sense of belonging.

This special opportunity was organized by Literacy Coach Natalie Ellwanger of Nathan Hale Middle School in partnership with the Norwalk Transit District and CEO Matt Pentz.

The winning student poets will be celebrated this month, having their photos taken alongside their poetry featured on the buses.
