Superintendent Message on Veterans Day 2023

Superintendent Message on Veterans Day 2023
Dr. Alexandra Estrella

Dear Norwalk Public Schools community

November is a special month. The school year is now in full swing, the leaves have begun their color transformation and their swift escape from our trees, the excitement of Election Day is here and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. However, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and remind our school community just how important Veterans Day is.

In 1954, Congress passed the bill that President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed proclaiming Nov. 11 as Veterans Day. Formerly known as Armistice Day, the day of recognition honors those men and women who have served in the United States armed forces and sacrificed everything so that this country may know freedom, peace and prosperity.

We, as a community, must take the appropriate time this month to acknowledge the dedication that veterans from across Norwalk and beyond have given for the United States of America. We also would like to recognize every NPS alumnus who have served in our military and dedicated their lives to the freedom of their neighbor.

We would also like to give a special shoutout to the Frank C. Godfrey American Legion Post 12 in Norwalk and all of its members. This week, we look toward these selfless heroes who have directly helped this community and district by serving to protect us and allowing us to do the work here, in Norwalk, so we can better serve our families.

The phrase “It takes a village” is one that we use often here at NPS. Nowhere is that phrase more applicable than the village of brave souls who chose to stand up to protect our country and our freedoms. So please join me in recognizing and thanking all of our veterans, here in Norwalk and beyond!

Yours in Partnership,

Dr. Alexandra Estrella
