Support and Response in Light of Recent Tragedy in Wisconsin

Support and Response in Light of Recent Tragedy in Wisconsin
Dr. Alexandra Estrella

Dear Norwalk Families,

Norwalk Public Schools wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to Abundant Life Christian School and the Madison, Wisconsin community. We stand together with the students, staff and families of the school who are the latest community to have to make sense of yet another senseless tragedy.

Norwalk Public Schools wants to remind families that if their child has questions or needs to speak to someone to help process recent events, we have the resources available in our schools to support them. We encourage our students to speak with a counselor or another trusted adult to help process the news.

The link below contains a list of resources that may help to start a healthy and safe conversation and provide some answers to their questions and concerns.

Resources Addressing Trauma, Violence and Grief in the Aftermath of a Mass Shooting

We know these incidents often bring up painful memories of the recent past – Uvalde, Parkland, and only days after the anniversary of Sandy Hook – and we will keep our focus on making sure our students have the resources available to care for their mental, emotional and physical well-being.

We also want to reassure everyone in our community that the safety of our students and staff is a top priority. A safe learning environment is critical for our students to succeed in the classroom, and we are constantly reviewing our safety and security measures to ensure that they meet and exceed the leading standards. If you or your child knows of a potential threat in the schools, please report it immediately.

Please join us in keeping the Madison community in our thoughts at this time. Thank you for your support.

Yours in Partnership,

Dr. Alexandra Estrella
