The following documents are needed when completing the registration process:

• Child's birth certificate

No. All documents must be delivered in person to the Family Center. Only hard copies or original documents are accepted. They will be scanned and returned to you.

Submit a completed and signed Landlord Affidavit from the person you live with, along with one bill in your name and one bill in their name. If you don’t have a bill in your name, you may provide two bills in the name of the person you live with instead.

Complete the regular registration process and submit any current Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan. The Family Center team will inform the school, and they will follow up with you. 

Provide three proofs of residency (a lease or mortgage statement and two bills dated within the last 90 days) to your child’s current school.

Transfer of a student from one Norwalk school to another may be granted under specified conditions at the discretion of the receiving school Principal or the Deputy Superintendent.

Transfer requests should be made to the Principal of the receiving school and will be considered, but not automatically granted. Included in such consideration is availability of space, class size, and racial balance. In each instance, it is necessary for supporting documentation to be attached to the request for transfer.

If a transfer is approved, transportation must be provided by the family. Siblings are not guaranteed Intra-District acceptance.

A child must be 5 years old on or before September 1st of the 2025-2026 school year to be eligible.

**Families of children who turn 5 years old between September 2, 2025 and December 31, 2025 may still register their child early for Kindergarten, but must complete the entire registration process and assessment by August 20, 2025.**

In response to the Connecticut General Statute requiring that children turn five years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year in order to enroll in kindergarten, Norwalk Public Schools has announced the following transition plan for the 2025-26 school year to help families impacted by the law that takes effect on July 1, 2024.

Any child who does not turn five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2025, but celebrates their fifth birthday before Jan. 1, 2026, may be eligible for kindergarten admission. This is contingent upon a written request from the child's parent/guardian during the registration process. Upon receipt of the request, the child will be scheduled for an assessment at the Family Center. The purpose of this assessment is to gather information about the child and their family, which will assist schools in providing better support for the students.

Norwalk Public Schools will continue to support all students according to their academic, emotional, and social needs with the understanding that students are unique regardless of age. Parents requesting early admittance will receive resources from the Family Center to assist them in their decision.
 

No. Your family only needs to apply for the school choice lottery if you wish to attend a magnet school or participate in a choice program that's not offered at your districted school.

Applying for the lottery doesn't guarantee your child a spot at your choice school or program.

Yes. If you are not already enrolled in Norwalk Public Schools, you must register your child in the district.
